Biography

Ní Chatháin is a teacher and a trade union activist who ran in the Limerick City mayoral election earlier this year. Her priorities are to end the trolley crisis in UHL's Emergency Department, housing, soldiarity with Palestine, and environmental justice.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

I decided to run because I am against the use of Shannon Airport by the US military. Its use has been protested and documented since the US invasion of Iraq over two decades ago. As genocidal violence continues in Gaza (with the political and material support of the US) it is urgent that Ireland stops all warplanes going through Shannon.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

To be anti-war is to be against all oppression and economic inequality, both at home and abroad. The capitalist system’s drive for profit is what drives these wars and is destroying our planet. A united grassroots movement must be built in order to take on these forces.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

The Occupied Territories Bill has been put on the backburner long enough. I would call for its immediate enactment, as well as a ban on the export of dual use goods to the Israeli State from Ireland, and of course, an end to US military in Shannon Airport.
