Biography

Mac Donncha is a councillor for Dublin City Council who served as Lord Mayor of Dublin in 2017-2018. He was the editor of An Phoblacht, the Sinn Féin newspaper, for six years in the 1990s. He was a founder member of the council's Moore Street committee and has campaigned to save and preserve the street given its association with the 1916 Rising.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

To provide the best possible representation to the people of Dublin Bay North by hopefully being one of two Sinn Féin TDs elected, thus also helping to deliver a change of government from FF/FG to one led by Sinn Féin.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing is the number one issue. The housing crisis created by FF/FG continues to be hugely damaging to individuals, families and society. We in Sinn Féin have the solutions in the most comprehensive plan for housing ever produced by an Opposition or indeed any political party.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

In terms of issues in the constituency I would be calling for community facilities for Belmayne and Clongriffin and the provision of the long overdue new school building for Gaelcholáite Reachrann.
