Biography

A former TD first elected in 2007, Ballymote resident Scanlon lost his seat on the final count at the 2020 election. He was a late addition to the Fianna Fàil ticket at the end of October.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

There is a need for a rural based government TD in our constituency. Since 2020, there has been no TD in rural Sligo for the first time ever and people have asked me to fill that void.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing is the biggest issue. We need a more simplified planning process for rural houses and we need more social, affordable and private developments to build up supply for buyers and renters.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

I would like to address the serious support that people with disabilities and those who look after them need. This includes those accessing state services, health services, employment and educational opportunities.
