Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
Public service is extremely important to me – I care deeply about my community, local people, local facilities, groups, and clubs and I want to ensure our voices are heard and essential resources are delivered for our communities. I believe we need a fresh, young, and ambitious voice that will fight for our communities, and our society in Dáil Éireann. I do not feel that my generation is adequately represented at the national level in politics in Ireland and I want to change that.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
As a young person in this country, housing is the number one issue affecting my generation. And the crux of the issue is it’s intergenerational. It affects all age groups in different ways - young people trying to get a start of life, working families looking to rent or purchase a home at affordable rates, or pensioners who are still renting and living in fear of a NTQ.
I believe that Fianna Fáil is the party that is building houses. Historically, it is the party that has delivered houses, and we need to continue and increase that momentum. Building affordable homes for both purchase and rental is absolutely essential, and this will be my number one priority if elected to Dáil Éireann.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
My first speaking time in Dáil Éireann would be on housing. It is the number one issue across all generations – young people, families, pensioners etc. The social and economic impacts cannot be understated, and we need to tackle this head on. A lack of secure housing also puts our other services under pressure, particularly our mental health and addiction management services. To ensure our economy continues to thrive, we need to deliver a steady supply of affordable housing in order to retain our young and talented workforce, and to maintain and attract further foreign direct investment. Housing is a big issue of concern to the people of North Tipperary and Northwest Kilkenny, and I want to ensure their concerns are voiced in Dáil Éireann.
