Biography

Mike has been an Independent councillor since 2014 and has served twice as Mayor of Galway City from 2019 to 2021. His key areas to work on, if elected, will be providing affordable housing, green spaces, supporting local clubs and preventing anti-social behaviour.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

Galway has been left behind in terms of investment for infrastructure projects compared to the rest of the country. A recent report stated a miserable 7.9% of national investment for projects over €1 million came to this region, compared to 66% in Dublin and the Midlands. I want to change that and offer proper representation for Galway.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing remains a crisis. We have had no affordable homes in Galway over the lifetime of this outgoing Government. It's time to progress this once and for all and stop giving this serious issue lip service.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

I will speak about the imbalance in regional development by poor investment by previous Governments and how I want a fairer share for Galway to progress in areas such as housing, traffic solutions, healthcare, mental health supports, sports facilities etc.
