Biography

Clare O’Callaghan is a teahcer working and living in West Cork with her husband and four children.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

As a working mother of 4, I want a better future for my children. I want our young people to be able to have a home of their own and a secure future.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

I think housing is the biggest issue. There are so many knock-on effects to this crisis. We can't hire teachers, nurses, guards etc as they have nowhere to live. Rental accomodation isn't secure, I myself am a renter. The health and mental health of the population is suffering. Parents and grandparents are watching their children have no option but to emigrate.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

I would like to speak about protecting rural Ireland, the decline in services in rural areas is enormous with the loss of small and medium sized businesses in rural areas that should be supported as they are the key to thriving and vibrant rural communities.
