Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

I've been an activist locally and nationally for the better part of a decade, having grown up in the aftermath of the financial crisis and austerity. My community was devastated during the crash and things haven't gotten much better since, despite Ireland becoming one of the wealthiest countries in Europe. I've watched countless close friends and younger family members leave Ireland. As an activist, and as a renter and part of the locked out generation, I've felt compelled to stay and fight for a better future. I'm running because I believe Ireland has the wealth and resources to ensure everyone a decent standard of living and dependable public services - Another Ireland is Possible.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing and delivery of public services. The root cause of many crises we face are the same. Under FG, homelessness has quadrupled, rents have more than doubled and house prices are currently rising at 10% per year. This is because government parties are wedded to the private market as the main means to deliver homes. The same devotion to the private market means the persistence of a broken two-tier health system, the refusal to adopt a public model of childcare and underinvestment in essential services. The only way to solve these crises is to build up public capacity to deliver what for-profit companies will never - setting up a state construction company to build affordable homes to buy and rent, a single tier NHS, a public childcare service and to plan for a more democratically managed society where the needs of the many come before the profits of the few.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

The State’s failure of children with additional education needs and their families. Over the last year, I've been deeply involved with families, teachers and SNAs campaigning for school places, support and services for children with additional needs in Dublin NW. Seeing the hardship and suffering caused by under-resourcing and poor management of children's disability services and special education has made me determined to make a difference. The parents I have worked with have inspired me to fight harder. They are some of the most courageous and determined people I know - I want to do all I can to amplify their voices and experiences, ensuring all children are cherished equally and allowed to flourish.
