Biography

Darragh Moriarty has served on Dublin City Council since 2020, having been co-opted to the local authority. He was re-elected in 2024. He prioritises affordable housing, provision of student accommodation, and sustainable infrastructure.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

I get the issues people in my community are facing, they're my issues as well. I grew up with a lack of facilities and lived at home for most of my twenties. As a Labour TD, I would fight for the vital investment in public services we need from public housing, childcare, public transport, and decent community facilities across Dublin South Central.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing. The severe shortage of affordable and decent housing is impacting every aspect of our society. Our schools, hospitals, Gardai and other vital public services suffer staff shortages because workers can’t afford to live in Dublin. For people fortunate to have a family home, many are still living with parents while record levels of people are in homeless emergency accommodation.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

I would specifically speak to the deplorable living conditions in many of our social housing complexes across Dublin. I would use my first speaking time to highlight this issue and be a persistent force for change in how we allocate housing maintenance resources to address these issues.
