Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
I decided to run in the General Election as it became clear that the country has the resources and talent but the current government lacks the ambition and urgency to tackle the issues. Affordable housing is a distant dream, finding a childcare place can be nearly impossible and vital climate targets are being missed. Labour has the plan and the ambition to deliver change.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
Housing is the biggest issue facing our communities. Lack of affordable housing combined with weak renters' rights are having a dire impact. We need to build 50,000 homes a year, retrofit a further 50,000 homes each year, enhance renters' rights and end the scourge of vacancy and dereliction.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
Loneliness. A European Commission survey in 2023 found that Ireland has the highest prevalence of loneliness across all of Europe. 20% of us feel lonely all or most of the time, compared to the EU average of 13%. We need to develop an action plan to tackle loneliness and social isolation in our communities.
