Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
North Kildare has been under-resourced for years, in my time on Kildare County Council I have seen this more clearly than ever. I also feel our childcare and education systems are unfit for purpose. Having been that working mother, an educator for 40 years and a Councillor for the past 6 years, I feel I am qualified to take on these challenges.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
It all comes down to an unfair distribution of wealth. We are told the country is wealthier than ever, yet people feel poorer than ever. Housing, Childcare, Education, Transport, lack of amenities, these could be solved with a fair distribution of wealth. This government has put plaster on problems with grants and once-off measures, rather than fix the permanent cracks in our society.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
I am an experienced educator, and see a major crisis ahead for our education system. Schools are bursting, we can't keep teachers in Ireland, and those abroad don't want to come home to high rents, unattainable mortgages and a high cost of living. Education is the basis of our society, so from their first day in creche to their graduation children need a resourced and respected sector.
