Biography

O'Hara is a Sinn Féin councillor for Galway County based in the Athenry-Oranmore area. Since graduating from university, he has worked as a constituency manager for Chris MacManus MEP.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

As a young person I see so many of my peers struggling to get by and many deciding to leave the country. The lack of affordable housing, healthcare, childcare and generally high cost of living must be addressed.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

The biggest issue is housing. As a Councillor I deal with people on a regular basis in insecure housing situations, struggling to pay rent or secure a mortgage. Not one affordable home has been delivered in Galway in the past 5 years and this needs to change. We also must ensure that people can get planning and build in their own communities.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

I would raise transport issues. The traffic chaos in Galway City has a huge impact on the quality of life of commuters in this constituency, while the lack of rural transport services is a cause of social exclusion for many people.
