Biography

Lettie McCarthy has sat on Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council since 2004. She grew up in rural Roscommon, and has campaigned against rezoning of lands in the Fernhill Park area.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

To try and address national issues which I can do nothing about as a councillor, particularly the services we relied on during the pandemic: healthcare workers, Gardai and teachers. Also I would like to see hedgerows protected through legalisation and include developers and Coillte in this.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Affordable housing, affordable rents and fixture of tenure, which also have a knock-on effect on my next biggest issue which is mental health.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

Taking ownership of our city again. So many people will not visit our city in the evening or night-time as they don’t feel safe. I want to see Dublin become a Living City (this was highlighted during the pandemic when our city became a ghost town while our suburbs were thriving).
