Marie Sherlock has been a Labour Party Senator since 2020. She is the former Equality Head of SIPTU. Sherlock was elected to Dublin City Council in 2019 before being confirmed for the Seanad. She is the Party Spokesperson for Employment Affairs, Arts, Culture, Media and the Gaeltacht.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

To fight for a future for everyone who works and wants to work in this city. Too many young people don't see a future in Dublin and Ireland, it breaks my heart. There are so many in good jobs with decent incomes and yet they cannot afford to affordably rent or buy.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

The cost of living. People are working hard and struggling to get by. I want to champion programmes such as retrofitting homes, building an affordable childcare system where workers are paid their fair dues, transforming our housing system and investing in our communities and programmes that support those struggling to get by.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

How we can support working people. There's a lot of talk, with few solutions. I don't believe the current government has working people at the heart of its agenda. Accessible retrofitting, childcare, healthcare - expenses add up, we need the government to step up and invest into working people.
