Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
I’m running because there is a lack of opposition politics and accountability in Ireland. This became clear during the Family and Care Referendum in March, where every other party pushed a "YES-YES" vote, while Aontú stood alone in opposition. Despite polls suggesting it would pass, it was defeated by a landslide, showing a serious groupthink problem in Irish politics. We saw similar during COVID, Peadar Tóibín was the sole voice calling for a more balanced approach, considering crucial aspects like cancer screening and dignity in bereavement. I’m running to bring real opposition, accountability, and a willingness to challenge conformity.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
Lack of affordable housing is Ireland’s biggest issue, followed closely by the vast waste of taxpayers' money, and a poorly managed immigration system. Each needs a direct, hands-on, common-sense approach to ensure real solutions and not just virtue signalling.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
I’d thank my voters and commit to being their voice in the Dáil, challenging the government if in opposition and delivering on our mandate if in government. We need a strict private sector style project-management approach to curtail wasteful government spending with clear timelines, progress tracking, and accountability to ensure promises are kept and projects delivered. I would also like to introduce legislation that would ban foreign investment funds from bulk buying our domestic housing stock, similar to Canada, New Zealand and Denmark.
