Biography

Butler has been a TD for Waterford since 2016. She is a Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, and was a member of Waterford City and County Council from 2014 to 2016. Before entering politics, she worked in the retail sector.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

When I canvassed Waterford during the 2020 election, the three main issues people raised were 24/7 cardiac care, the North Quays and a University for the South East. Through the provision of €170 million for the North Quays development, the establishment of SETU and the construction of the second cath lab, we have delivered in Government on all three.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

24/7 is yet to be fully achieved but I have made huge progress as a Minister of State at the Department of Health in expanding services to the point that we are on the verge of an opening date announcement for the seven day 8am-8pm service. The clinicians have stated that this will cover approximately 90% of all presentations.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

Should I be re-elected by the people of Waterford, I will continue to engage with all stakeholders to develop Waterford Airport and the runway extension. I’ll further my work on the expansion of health services and cardiac care. I’ll remain a strong advocate for older people by supporting them to age well in their own homes with the key wrap around supports (Home Care, Daycare, Meals on Wheels) while prioritising dementia care. I am running for re-election to continue delivering for Waterford city and county.
