Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
Not seeing a candidate who truly reflected my values or an independent willing to step forward, I felt it was my responsibility to offer an alternative to the dominance of the main political parties. As an independent, my mission is to represent the people—especially the most vulnerable—and to work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for everyone in our new constituency.
Another significant reason I chose to run was to challenge preconceived notions of who can serve as a TD. As a single mother who doesn’t fit the traditional mold, I wanted to show that this is precisely why I, and others like me, can and should step forward to lead. It’s about proving that anyone with the determination to make a difference can do so.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
While the cost of living crisis and the erosion of public services and democracy are deeply concerning, I believe the most pressing and heartbreaking issue is the normalisation of homelessness in Ireland. Secure shelter—a place to call home—is a fundamental need for every family, adult and child.
Witnessing someone forced to sleep rough due to a lack of emergency accommodation is something I will never accept as normal or unavoidable. It is a moral failure that demands urgent action. My commitment is clear: in our new constituency, I will work tirelessly to ensure that no person is left without shelter and a bed, regardless of their circumstances. No one should ever be abandoned to face homelessness.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
If elected, my first speech in the Dáil would begin with heartfelt thanks to the people of Wicklow and Wexford for placing their trust in me. I would reflect on our island’s wealth of natural assets and stunning beauty, highlighting how these resources should ensure no one is left behind.
To fully realise this potential, I would emphasise the need to reconnect with values that strengthen our bond with nature and reinforce our responsibility to nurture one another.
I would conclude by sharing my vision for the future: by embracing our natural heritage and prioritising sustainability, we can build a stronger, more self-reliant nation—one that honors its roots while securing a brighter future for all.
