Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
We need a new era of politicians that take action now to address the challenges of the future and avoid crises, and I have the skills to drive that. A lack of foresight and action on housing over a period of 10 years has resulted in a crisis. We need to continue progress in areas of social equality and climate, through a ramp on renewables and better provision of public services. We need more women in politics, as corporate organisations have already proved, gender balance results in better decision making. 50% of our population are women and our Dail should reflect that.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
A regression of progressive change in favour of short term populist thinking. The worst impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss, from increased food prices due to crop failures, and weather extremes are going to affect the most vulnerable in our society first, yet action is not always popular. There is a huge opportunity to fix so many social problems while also tackling climate, from reducing energy costs through renewables, equal access to public transport and investment in our health and support services. Better financial support of farmers through the transition is badly needed, so that we can ensure food security and make farming a viable career choice going forward. We need to get serious about climate adaptation e.g. flood prevention.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
I will call for the immediate enactment of the Occupied Territories Bill. It is beyond time that this bill was enacted, and The Green Party has supported this bill from Day 1.
