Biography

John Connolly is a Councillor in the Galway City Council and is a party candidate for Galway West in this general election.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

I am currently serving my third term as a member of Galway City Council and have always shown a commitment to my community and interest in the well-being of society. I want to continue this work at a national level. For 20 years I have worked closely with Deputy Eamon O Cuiv who is retiring from active politics following this election.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

The housing crisis. The impact of the crisis is not solely the lack of shelter but the medical and social impact felt by those who must rely on emergency accommodation and face uncertainty about their future.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

The traffic, transport and access issues in Galway and the cumbersome processes that the NTA use in devising solutions to these problems. The NTA devise their policy on Galway's transport solutions from Dublin. The NTA should be regionalised and decision-making should include greater input from members of the local authorities.
