Biography
Farrell is a Sinn Féin TD for Galway West and was appointed the chair of the Public Accounts Committee in October 2024 after the resignation of Brian Stanley. She was a Galway City councillor from 2014-2019, and was previously the party Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform. She is against what she has described as Ursula von der Leyen's desire to militarise the EU.
Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
I am running to continue my work representing the people of Galway inside and outside Leinster. I have used my seat as a platform to help assist my constituents with a variety of everyday issues, and also to bring forward important pieces of legislation which can reform public spending, housing and accountability.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
The housing crisis is undoubtedly the greatest crisis we are facing. Every additional day that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael spend in government will see house prices rise, rents rise, homelessness rise, the share of young adults living with their parents rise, and ridiculous returns of vulture funds rise.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
I’ve been elected before, so this wouldn’t be my first time speaking in Dáil. But if I am fortunate enough to be returned then it's likely that I will raise the issue of housing first, as this is the issue which comes up the most in my clinics.
