Biography

Cormac Devlin has been a Fianna Fáil TD for Dún Laoghaire since 2020. He is the Fianna Fáil Chief Whip & Deputy Government Whip. The former party Spokesperson on Dublin, Devlin was also a member of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from 2004 to 2019.

Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?

I'm passionate about delivering positive change for my community and for Ireland. During this Dáil term, I worked to secure significant investment in Dún Laoghaire, while also working with public representatives from all parties to secure the passage of important legislation on housing, cost of living supports and pro-enterprise policies to support jobs. As a member of the Public Accounts Committee, I worked hard to hold officials to account and seek value for money in public spending. I want to continue to serve the people of Dún Laoghaire.

What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?

Housing is the biggest issue facing Ireland at the moment, this was caused by a decade of under delivery by previous Fine Gael-led governments. Under the Housing for All policy, Fianna Fáil in Government has completely overhauled the planning system, commenced a massive social home building programme and introduced the first significant affordable purchase scheme in over a decade. Fianna Fáil will ensure help to buy schemes will be continued to support first time buyers and increase the rent tax credit to €1,500 to help renters, while also supporting the construction of over 300,000 homes over the next 5 years.

What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?

Ireland is at almost full employment and the economy is doing well, but not everyone is feeling it. The next Government must redouble efforts to improve public services (particularly for people with a disability), protect jobs with pro-enterprise policies and develop an ambitious programme to upgrade Ireland's infrastructure for the next generation.
