Question time
Why did you decide to run in this election?
I’m a sitting Sinn Féin TD in Cavan-Monaghan and I was first elected to represent the constituency in 2020. It has been a great privilege to represent the people of Cavan-Monaghan over the last 4½ years. While I feel that I have achieved a lot in that time I also know that with a Sinn Féin led government I can achieve much more. In government we can start to address the many issues brought about by over 100 years of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil governments. People want change and there is a clear choice in this election. A Sinn Féin led Government that is on the side of ordinary people, or another 5 years of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil. The only way to get a change of Government is to vote for Sinn Féin.
What do you think is the greatest issue the country faces right now?
Housing and health. Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have brought about the housing and homelessness crisis. They are also responsible for delivering a failing healthcare system. They have subsequently failed to address either of these issues adequately while in government
together over the last 4½ years. Sinn Féin has plans to fix both housing and healthcare and we have the people and the determination to get the job done. I am asking people to give us the chance to lead, and we will deliver for you, your family and your community.
What would you like your first speaking time in the Dáil to be about if you get elected?
If the people of Cavan-Monaghan do me the privilege of returning me as a TD in the next Dáil I would like my first speaking time in the Dáil to be welcoming Mary Lou McDonald as our first female Taoiseach. However, whether in government or opposition I will work diligently to deliver for the people of Cavan-Monaghan and also for disabled people and family carers nationwide. My first speaking time in the forthcoming Dáil is likely to be on the same topic as my last speaking time in the last Dáil: disability and carers. Specifically, the lack of staffing in CDNT’s, the lack of respite places, and the need for a major expansion of independent living options and the supports to go with them.
