Gerard Hutch grew up in Dublin’s north inner city. He was given the name 'The Monk’ by the media. Despite being considered one of the most high-profile figures in Irish organised crime for decades, he has never been convicted of serious offences. He did, however, pay more than two million pounds to the Criminal Assets Bureau in 2000. He is running on an anti-establishment platform, focusing on issues such as housing, the cost of living and a hardline stance on immigration.
