Kerrane works as a political advisor on social protection with Sinn Féin in Leinster House. She is a qualified secondary school teacher in English and politics. She is from Roscommon and has campaigned against closing the A&E unit in Roscommon and for the continuation of domestic turf cutting rights.
I am putting my name forward to offer a real alternative to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil who have not delivered for our constituency. Instead, they have stripped our communities of vital services, including respite services, mental health services, post offices and garda stations.
Healthcare is a major issue in this constituency. While candidates have been tripping over each other to take credit for the long-promised new 50-bed unit at Portiuncula Hospital, unless the embargo on the recruitment of front-line staff is lifted, these beds will lie idle while the trolley crisis worsens.
Establish an employment taskforce, including key stakeholders to explore ways in which jobs can be brought to counties west of the Shannon. This would mean a specific focus on job creation in our area rather than leaving it up to the IDA who rarely visit our constituency let alone create jobs.
