Biography
Canney was first elected as a TD in 2016. He was appointed as Minister of State for natural resources, community affairs and digital development. He formerly worked as a lecturer in construction economics and quantity surveying at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. He was first elected to Galway County Council in 2004. He served as Mayor of County Galway from 2007 to 2008.
