Lyons was elected as a People Before Profit councillor in 2011. He moved to become an Independent in January 2019 as part of the Independent Left alliance. He has previously contended for a seat in the Dáil in 2011 and 2016. He was elected as an Independent councillor in May 2019.

I believe we need real change and I don't think most of the TDs in this area have lived up to their responsibilities in the role, especially in relation to areas like childcare, transport and education.

Housing. The lack of community and affordable housing is a real issue for people in this constituency. I also want to take real action on climate change.

I would seek to introduce legislation to appeal the Building Heights legislation brought in by Eoghan Murphy in 2018. I would also appeal the housing development legislation brought in by [former Minister for Housing] Simon Coveney.
