Butler was first elected as a TD in 2016. She is the Fianna Fáil junior spokesperson on older people and public health promotion. She was first elected to Waterford City and County Council in the 2014 local elections. Her background is in retail. She is the most recent chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Business Enterprise and Innovation.
