Biography

First elected as a TD in a 1998 by-election, she had run unsuccessfully in two previous general elections. She has retained her seat since and is the current Minister for Education and Skills. She was formerly the Labour Party spokesperson for health as well as justice and equality.

Honesty, commitment and hard work – together with a passion for more just and tolerant Ireland.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

To continue to attract jobs and investment to Limerick and the mid-west so that we can build a social, as well as an economic recovery.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

Work with colleagues on the next education budget that would deliver increased resources to all elements of the education system.
