She ran unsuccessfully in the 2009 European elections and the 2011 general election before being elected to the Seanad in 2011. A journalist by profession, she is the Labour Seanad spokesperson on agriculture and tourism and is a member of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine as well as a member of the Banking Inquiry.
