A CARGO PLANE HAS CRASHED onto a busy highway in Dubai. A number of cars were set on fire, and emergency services are rushing to the area. One unnamed UAE official told Al Arabiya that the plane caught fire at it attempted to land at Dubai International Airport nearby.

AT LEAST 42 PEOPLE have died after a plane missed the runway and crashed in north-eastern China last night.

The Henan Airlines passenger plane was carrying 91 passengers when it overshot the runway at Yichun City’s Lindu airport, and burst into flames.

Initial reports suggested that 96 people had been on board.

Incredibly, 49 people managed to escape from the wreckage, including the pilot. Three of the survivors are said to be in critical condition.

Eighteen Chinese government officials were on board.

The fire was so severe that little of the fuselage remains. Authorities say they recovered the plane’s black box this morning.

One survivor reported turbulence as the plane was landing. He said the passengers had been unable to open the emergency exits as the cabin filled with smoke. He escaped by climbing through a hole in the wall of the plane.

Henan Airlines is a joint operation between Shenzhen Airlines of China and Mesa Air Group of the US.

A SMALL PLANE carrying 14 people has crashed in Nepal, about 50km from capital Kathmandu. The plane crashed en route to Lukla, considered the entry point to Mount Everest. Six foreign tourists are believed to have been on board, but no further information has been released yet. A rescue operation is underway, but is being hampered by the bad weather blamed for the crash.

A FIGHTER PLANE which crashed in northern China today may have been piloted by a North Korean defector, according to South Korean and Chinese media.

The plane crashed about 90 miles inside the Chinese border yesterday afternoon.

One eye-witness said the engine was making a “very strange noise” and flying low before it crashed into an orchard in Lagu, a village in the Liaoning province.

China is considered to be North Korea’s closest ally, but has become a route for defectors to pass from North Korea to South Korea.

Hours later, authorities admitted that it was a safety drill and there had been no crash.
