New polling conducted by Red C on behalf of The Journal found huge support for mandatory calorie labelling on menus.
Plans to introduce the measure in Ireland, as part of efforts to tackle obesity, have been shelved.
Restaurateurs have raised a number of concerns about the policy including cost and practicality.
