Some of the general election runners, riders and fallers took time out on Sunday to give thanks or just to give out on Twitter.

THERE WILL BE no further results announced tonight in the General Election 2011 count.

The Laois-Offaly count will recommence at 10am today. There will be no announcements from the Galway West count either overnight. The Wicklow recount granted to Fianna Fail’s Dick Roche will not begin until 9am.

A total of 12 seats are yet to be decided in these constituencies. So far, Fine Gael are on 70 seats, Labour on 36, Fianna Fail on 18, Sinn Fein on 13 and others (including independents) on 17 seats.

FIANNA FAIL’S JOHN McGuinness and Labour’s Ann Phelan have been elected to the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency on the 12th count. McGuinness got a total of 12,630 votes and Phelan got14,160 – both over the 12,291 quota.

Three seats are yet to be filled in that constituency. Fine Gael’s Phil Hogan looks likely to take the next seat while Bobby Aylward is likely to lose out for Fianna Fail.

LABOUR CANDIDATE IVANA Bacik has been excluded and Fine Gael’s Sean Barrett has been elected in Dún Laoghaire on the ninth and eighth counts respectively.

International media focus on Fianna Fáil's humiliation at the polls

TWO FURTHER CANDIDATES have been excluded from the running: Fianna Fáil’s Jennifer Murnane-O’Connor has been excluded  in Carlow-Kilkenny on tenth count, while Labour’s Mary Moran has been eliminated in Louth on the eleventh count.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE EDDIE Fitzpatrick has been eliminated on sixth count in Laois-Offaly.

Meanwhile independent Wicklow candidate Jim Tallon has been excluded on third count.

LABOUR’S CANDIDATE IN Cork South Central Ciarán Lynch is the first contender to be elected this morning, on the second day of the count. Lynch was elected on the ninth count.
