Biography

First elected to the Dáil in 1981, he served until 2002 when he lost his seat. He was re-elected in 2002 and was appointed as Minister for Justice and Equality and Minister for Defence in 2011. However, he resigned in 2014 following the publication of the Guerin report.

Because I have over many years pioneered change, progress & social reform & always tell the truth, even about difficult & controversial issues.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

To keep the recovery going: ensure everyone benefits: jobs growth continues & we dramatically improve our health service.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

Ensure implementation of recent Garda Inspectorate recommendations, including employing civilians to free up gardai to fight crime.
